Maulverjar like Veganuary

Veganúar has come on strong in Icelandic society, and of course the Maul team is taking part. We are in partnership with Jömm, a fully vegan and award-winning fast-food restaurant. They offer hearty and juicy vegan food that makes your taste buds dance. We also always have vegan dishes from various other restaurants. Now it shouldn’t be complicated for anyone to take part in Veganúar.

But what is Veganúar?

In recent years, Iceland’s vegan organizations have encouraged people to try being vegan for one month, and January is of course the ideal month for that. The goal is to get people thinking about the impact of consuming animal products and to learn about the benefits of veganism. After all the salt and smoked meat we Icelanders gorge ourselves on during Christmas, it can be quite good to switch to vegetables and less processed products - at least for a little while. Veganúar is ideal for starting the year in a healthy way, and many people make New Year’s resolutions to improve their diet. Does that sound familiar?

What does it mean to be vegan?

Being vegan and embracing the vegan lifestyle is primarily about not eating animals or animal products. The goal of those who embrace veganism is to eliminate and avoid violence and exploitation of animals, whether it is for food, clothing, cosmetics, or other consumption.

We at Maul always think first and foremost about food and about enjoying a varied and good diet, and doing so in an environmentally friendly way! To make it easier for everyone to take part in Veganúar and to be vegan (even longer than just January), we have vegan dishes available all year round. The vegan dishes contain no animal products, but they are still delicious meals that everyone should be able to enjoy whether they are vegan or not.
